Hi there, welcome back.
I have been thinking a lot lately about eye shadow palettes. This year I have deconstructed my Urban Decay Naked palette and my Lorac Pro Original palette, meaning that I only kept the colors I knew I would use from start to finish. This got me thinking, if I didn't like every single color in a palette, why did I even buy it? Why did I buy 12 shadows when I only really liked 8 of them?
Then I saw the Lorac Mega Pro 3... I had told myself I wasn't going to buy anymore eye shadow the rest of this year, and probably next year. The more I looked at that palette, the more I wanted to throw that to the wind and spend the $50-$60 on this palette. I posted on my Instagram that I wanted to purchase this palette and a few of followers said to use caution.
Now I saw a lot of reviews for the Lorac Pro 3 palette, and it seemed like the formulas were different and the colors weren't anything new. I knew I didn't need that palette, but the Mega Pro 3 really stuck with me.
Over all, I know I do not need that palette. I don't need any eye shadow. I'm trying to get away from buying eye shadow palettes all together, because the more I think about it, the more I realize that I am wasting money on some of them.
Let's do that math.
The Lorac Pro palette is $44 at Ulta, you get 16 shadows. That makes each shadow $2.75. In the 3 years that I have had this palette I have used up 2 shades, decluttered 5 and I still have 9 left.
That means that out of the $44 I spent on the palette, $5.50 was used up, $24.75 is still in my collection and $13.75 went into the garbage. That's 31% of my palette that went unused!
Palettes may seem like you are getting a great deal on a bunch of eye shadow, but I want you to really think before you buy. Evaluate every single color. Ask yourself, "Will I use this eye shadow up entirely?" Be aware of how much of your money you could waste by buying that palette.
Once I get a better look at the Mega Pro 3, I'll likely do a post on if I decide to buy it.
Let me know how you justify buying an entire eye shadow palette.

I justify full palette purchases if it's anastasia or kvd. I know those are going to be good. I rarely buy palettes. Single shadows is where it's at.
ReplyDeleteOoo, I've never tried ABH or KVD shadows!
